Greg Dirnberger

Greg Dirnberger serves as the church planter and senior pastor of Emmaus Road Church.

Greg’s Midwestern roots began in Minnesota. He was born in Minneapolis and was raised in Long Prairie and attended Bethel College and Seminary in St. Paul, graduating with a Masters of Divinity degree. During seminary, Greg met and married his wife, Laurie, in Honolulu, HI. Over the course of 27 years, living in both Hawaii and returning to Greg’s Midwestern roots, Greg and Laurie have served four different churches with Converge Worldwide (formerly, the Baptist General Conference). In 2011 Greg completed a Doctor of Ministry degree in Leadership Development from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and then transitioned to serve in pastoral leadership with Sovereign Grace Ministries, a denomination of approximately 80 churches in the USA and internationally. In 2013, Sovereign Grace Ministries commissioned the Dirnbergers to plant Emmaus Road Church in Sioux Falls.

“One of the many chords that struck me with respect to Sovereign Grace Ministries and our commission to plant this church was that succession planning was built in from the very beginning. This doesn’t become about the one-time event of building a church, it is about equipping and deploying young men to become this generation’s and the next generation’s church leaders – and that is so exciting.”

Greg and Laurie have been married 31 years and have lived in Sioux Falls since 2006. They are thrilled and blessed that their three adult sons – Caleb, Josh, and Joel, are all active participants in planting Emmaus Road Church.

“It is rare that in this season, when most of our contemporaries are learning to cope with empty-nests, we have this incredible opportunity to step into this new role together as a family.”

A lifelong musician, Greg secretly has always wanted to drum for a funk band and has been known to “beat the skins” in various worship team settings, a jazz ensemble in his early days, and in recent years, Greg sat in with a Sioux Falls blues band to wow the throngs of McKennan Park visitors out for a summer night of music in the park. You will always find Greg singing (with or without a microphone) and don’t be surprised if you see Greg on drums, or playing guitar as well.
